The LQG 2024 Annual Debate – Ed Fishwick & Brunello Rosa
The LQG will debate the motion: This house believes that
“This time is different”. AI and other technologies will boost global growth and justify current asset prices.
Sir John Tempelton said that the four most expensive words in the English language are “This time is different”. Over the past 5 years, driven in large part by extreme optimism about AI and technology change, the US equity market has delivered straight line returns of +100%. Over the same period the “Magnificent 7” are up +570%. Through the lens of history this looks like a bubble. But maybe this time is different?
Prof. Brunello Rosa will propose the motion.
Ed Fishwick will oppose the motion.
The annual debate is the traditional climax of the year. It is great fun as well as being informative and educational,
The views expressed during the debate are not necessarily the views of the speakers personally their company or other LQG sponsors!
The debate is held under the Chatham House Rule.
The LQG is very grateful to our hosts of this in-person and on-line hybrid LQG.
